Risks and
protections

How is my investment secured in the event of a default of Homaio?

Investors are protected by the presence of a security agent, Aether Financial Services (AFS). AFS is an independent financial agent and payment service provider regulated by the ACPR (REGAFi identifier 728021).They hold pledges of Homaio's bank and EU Registry trading accounts. They are charged with the protection of investors in case of a default of Homaio. In all cases, your investment remains secure.

How do you guarantee liquidity?

EUAs are traded on a market involving tens of thousands of participants. The daily trading volume is around 3 billion euros, or 900 billion per year. Therefore, we always have a counterparty to buy the EUAs we wish to sell at the market price.

What are the political, technological, and economic risks?

Investing in EUAs (European Union Allowances) can involve risks related to politics, technological advancement, or macroeconomics. Politically, there can be shifts in EU-wide regulations. Some of these changes might be temporary, leveraging the EU ETS as a strong policy tool to address broader social or economic crises. Other changes could result from a major shift in climate ambition and a reevaluation of the bloc’s core priorities. While individual member states might express doubts about their commitment to the EU ETS, the union-wide nature of the mechanism ensures that these localized concerns cannot fundamentally undermine the market. Technologically, advancements in renewable energy and emission reduction technologies could decrease the demand for EUAs, affecting their market value. This transition is gradual and monitored, allowing the market to adjust accordingly. Economically, fluctuations in market conditions, such as economic downturns or changes in industrial production, can influence EUA prices and liquidity. However, the EU ETS can anticipate and counteract these dynamics through its expansion and the anticipated rise in demand from newly included sectors. Our platform provides comprehensive information and resources to help you make informed decisions.

Is it a risky investment?

Bonds backed by EUAs are a risky investment, with a risk of partial or total loss of the capital invested. Ensure that this matches your risk profile and that the amount of your investment corresponds to the level of risk you are willing to take. Have precautionary savings and only invest a small portion of your financial assets.

Structure and partners

Who is behind Homaio?

You can see the profile of our entire team on our dedicated page. We are a multidisciplinary and experienced team, supported by French and German investment funds. Homaio is based in Paris, France. Our offices are located in the 10th arrondissement. Feel free to drop by for a coffee!

What am I investing in?

When you invest, you subscribe to bonds issued by a subsidiary company of Homaio. This means you hold bonds issued by a French limited company. It is this issuing company that purchases and holds the number of EUAs corresponding to your subscription amount. The value of your bonds fluctuates according to the value of the underlying EUAs. The issuing company holds the EUAs in an account opened in its name in the European Registry of the EU Emissions Trading System. The account administrator is the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations. There are no coupons associated with the bonds issued. Any gains or losses from your investment will be realized upon the redemption, i.e., sale, of your bonds.

Who are Homaio's financial partners?

Memo Bank - Memo Bank is the bank we work with. It is a French credit institution, regulated by the ACPR. Their REGAFI identification number is 87553. When you subscribe to the bonds, you will make a transfer to our account held by Memo Bank. Aether Financial Services (AFS) - AFS is an independent financial agent. They act as the bondholders representative. They are regulated in France by the ACPR as a payment service provider under REGAFi identifier 728021. The Caisse des Dépôts - The Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations is a French public financial institution, established in 1816, and owned by the French State. It is the French administrator of the European Registry of the EU Emissions Trading System. It is in this registry that European emission allowances are held.

Can I invest if my bank account is registered abroad ?

Investing with a bank account outside France is not a problem. We have clients from countries all over the world.

Can I invest as a legal entity ?

Yes, this is entirely possible. When you subscribe, we will ask you for some additional information related to the legal entity, including a company registration certificate or equivalent. Our clients regularly invest through holding companies.

Is this financial product eligible for tax benefits or to be held in a regulated savings account?

The bonds do not offer any tax benefits and are not eligible for a regulated savings plan. Therefore, you cannot hold them in a regulated savings account such as, in France, a PEA (Plan Epargne Actions) or a CTO (Compte Titre Ordinaire) or a life insurance policy.

Terms and fees

What is the minimum investment amount?

We offer several options to meet the varying demands of private and family investors, as well as those of our partners, whose profiles are quite diverse. The minimum subscription amounts differ depending on these offers. However, we are unable to process investments below €1,000.

What are the fees?

The fee structure consists of two parts: entry fees and management fees. Entry fees are a percentage of your investment amount. Management fees are a percentage of the average value of your portfolio throughout the year. We average the daily values based on the closing price of EUAs. These fees are deducted on each anniversary date of your subscription. The percentage amounts depend on the size of your investment. There are no other fees: no transaction fees, no exit fees.

What is the process for selling my EUAs?

After a minimum holding period of a few months (exact duration depends on your investment amount), you can request the redemption of all or part of your bonds. This involves selling the associated EUAs at the next available market price, depending on when you request the redemption. You can request the redemption of your bonds directly through your client dashboard. You will receive the funds in your account within 2 or 3 business days.

Why is there a minimum holding period ?

In the short term, EUAs are a volatile asset, influenced by various economic factors. They are particularly sensitive to energy prices, themselves affected by geopolitical events. It is in the long term that market fundamentals are expressed and the impact on decarbonization trajectories realized. Therefore, we aim to serve individuals buy and hold approach that value the market fundamentals. At the same time, we want to maintain liquidity. Hence, we have implemented a minimum holding period of a few months to strike this balance.
